Taking the site’s inherent logic as a point of departure, the proposal reintroduces the structure of the landscape as the foundation for Nordkajen’s future development. By allowing city and landscape to grow together, the former industrial area is transformed into a vibrant and resilient fjord landscape, strengthening the connection between Vejle’s city centre and the fjord.
A blue-green structure integrates rainwater management, nature and coastal protection into the urban spaces, while the harbour’s silos, quaysides and industrial traces are retained as defining elements of the area’s identity.
A new SDU campus will bring activity and life to the district throughout the day, while a phased development strategy allows Nordkajen to evolve over time.
