STED is a Copenhagen-based landscape architecture studio with a multidisciplinary team of landscape architects and urban planners. The studio shapes landscapes and urban spaces through strategic development, biodiversity, and placemaking – addressing today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.
Founded in 2015 by landscape architect Martin Hjerl and architect/urban planner Rosa Lund, STED works from a deep understanding of each site’s unique qualities – its history, climate, culture, and physical traces. The studio refers to this as the place’s dialect, which informs the design narrative of every project, guiding decisions from overall concept to materials, planting, and lighting.
STED’s approach is holistic and relational. Working across scales and disciplines, the team integrates landscape architecture, urban design, and strategic planning. Their work is grounded in close collaboration with clients, partners and communities, as well as respect for natural systems, existing structures, and future potential. A key focus is retrofitting landscapes in city centres and local neighbourhoods.
Since 2022, STED has been part of a collective with Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects (formerly VL Group), and in 2026 the studio joined Verka Collective.
Projects by STED include landscapes and urban environments that respond to both ecological conditions and human use. Recent work includes the landscape design for Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, integrating therapeutic outdoor spaces with healthcare facilities in close collaboration with Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects and others. Another project is the revitalization of the outdoor areas at Grønjordskollegiet in Copenhagen, where a former parking lot is being transformed into an outdoor living room for the local community.
