AART

AART is a Scandinavian architecture practice founded in Aarhus in 2000, driven by the belief that architecture can act as a catalyst for positive change in society.

AART is recognized for its systematic and strategic focus on effects: how architecture influences the people, places and communities it becomes part of. Bringing together architecture, design, user perspectives and research, AART considers not only what is built, but the social, environmental and economic value architecture can create – now and over time.

This holistic, long-term perspective also shapes how AART works with what already exists. By making better use of existing buildings, materials and resources, the architecture practice seeks to extend their value while creating new possibilities for the future.

AART works across disciplines and scales – from individual spaces and buildings to landscapes, neighbourhoods and cities. Architects, landscape architects, designers, sociologists, anthropologists and other specialists bring different perspectives together with care, curiosity and ambition – creating a broader understanding of the built environment and architecture whose effects can be felt, understood and documented.

Today, AART is one of Scandinavia’s largest architecture practices, with around 250 people and studios across Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany. Its portfolio spans culture, education, healthcare, workplaces, housing and urban development – from the transformation of existing buildings and districts to major new cultural and civic destinations. Notable projecs include the new treasury at Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen, the Museum of the Viking Age in Oslo, the transformation of Universitetsbyen in Aarhus and Grundfos’ global headquarters in Bjerringbro.
