Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects and STED design Lodshaven: a new urban destination in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn

Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects and STED have been selected to design Lodshaven, a new urban development in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn that combines architecture, landscape design, biodiversity and waterfront living.

Located at the outermost part of Marmormolen, the Lodshaven project will create a new destination in Copenhagen by integrating the city’s first bio-botanical urban garden with two flexible commercial buildings. The proposal strengthens the connection between sea, city and nature, offering attractive public spaces for residents, workers and visitors.

The design draws inspiration from both historic and contemporary Copenhagen architecture and is based on adaptable building concepts that support future uses. Biodiversity and urban life are brought together through a strong landscape strategy, positioning Lodshaven as a benchmark for sustainable urban development in Nordhavn.

The project area extends from Marmorvej to the tip of Marmormolen and includes a public city park of approximately 10,000 m², alongside commercial buildings totalling around 33,000 m². The development is led by Harbour A/S, a project company comprising PensionDanmark, ATP Ejendomme and By & Havn. The project proposal has been developed by Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, STED By og Landskab and Artelia Denmark.

Pending approval by the City of Copenhagen, and subject to the adoption of a local plan and securing tenants, Lodshaven will contribute a new green, mixed-use destination to Copenhagen’s harbourfront and reinforce Nordhavn’s position as a leading area for sustainable urban development.
